OUR JOURNEY

ONE ENTREPRENEUR. ONE DREAM.

In late March of 2020, Boston-based robotics entrepreneur Tyler Mantel paused work on his own startup to address the COVID-19 crisis. The Ventilator Project was founded to provide a solution for the alarmly critical ventilator shortage around the world.

TVP decided to focus on ventilators because of their ability to make a direct impact. Ventilators are devices that can assist with respiratory functions, which is directly impactful to a person’s health.

ASSEMBLING THE TEAM

Three days after the project’s founding, 15 engineers began designing a better, more easily manufactured ventilator to meet the needs of COVID-19 patients.

Since then, our team has grown rapidly to over 200 remote volunteers across all departments of the company; bringing together individuals from the White House, Cornell University, Google, and even the San Francisco 49ers.

EUA AUTHORIZATION & AIRA V1.0

By coming up with ways to source ventilator components outside of traditional medical supply chains, we have advanced our technology at an astounding rate.

Our engineers iterated a 4th prototype in just 2 weeks, naming the ventilator “AIRA.”

Under the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), organizations can move faster to develop products that combat the COVID-19 crisis. AIRA falls under the EUA category. Now that we have received the EUA, we plan to immediately mobilize our sourcing and manufacturing partners to begin production.

WHAT'S NEXT

Not only has the team grown, but our organization’s mission has also evolved – While COVID may be near its end in the U.S., it will continue to have devastating impacts on countries with weak healthcare infrastructure. Therefore, we are determined to aid hospitals in low to middle income countries around the globe.
